At deMaskas we can offer a total solution to the correct selection of Respiratory Protection.

Identifying the Hazards

Whatever industry each sector has its own risks and dangers. The first step is to identify them. What is the worker exposed too, Dust? Gases? Vapours? deMaskas can help by providing a site audit to identify all potential respiratory hazards.

Assessing the risk

Respiratory Fit TestingOnce the hazards have been identified we can interpret any data you have MSDS’s (Material Safety Data Sheets). Actual Levels of Exposure v’s WEL’s (Workplace Exposure Limits). DeMaskas can then evaluate the range of respiratory related risks. What is the probability of each risk and consequences? By evaluating each risk and danger, you can prioritise its prevention.

Selecting the right Respirator(s)

Once the risks and dangers that can impact your staff are determined deMaskas can help choose the correct respirator for each hazard and make sure that the respirators selected suit each employee.

Fit Testing

If you employ staff in an environment which requires the use of a respirator with a tight-fitting facepiece it is now a mandatory requirement under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) and the supporting Approved Codes of practice to carry out face fit testing.

Train the workforce

RPE TRAINING – Training for Respiratory Protective Equipment

A training course has been designed by deMaskas to provide the necessary information and instruction to form a satisfactory understanding and awareness of the issues relating to the selection, use, maintenance, cleaning and storage of RPE according to current regulations. This training course is aimed at operatives, supervisors and managers who wear RPE on a frequent or infrequent basis and/or have a duty to manage RPE procedures in the workplace.

Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) is unlikely to provide optimum protection if the wearer does not know how to use, maintain and store the equipment in the correct manner.

Employers must ensure that adequate training is provided to all operatives, supervisors and managers who have any responsibility for RPE in the workplace before first use. Training should include:

  • Selection and Use of RPE
  • Correct Donning and Doffing Procedures
  • Current Legislation
  • Basic Maintenance Requirements
  • Cleaning
  • Storage
  • Respirator Face Fit Testing
  • Recording Keeping
  • Final Assessment

Employers are required by law to ensure that suitable training for RPE is provided before first use to all existing and new operatives, supervisors and managers and thereafter refresher training should be provided at a suitable period. Refresher training is especially important for those who wear or maintain RPE on an infrequent basis.

Policy Writing

Written Respiratory and Face Fit Testing Policies should be included in your company Health & Safety documentation.

A Respiratory Policy outlines roles and responsibilities from director level through to an employee and contract workers

A Fit Testing Policy provides guidance to all staff and managers of the organisational arrangements in relation to respiratory fit testing in line with the current COSHH Legislation.

deMaskas offers a policy writing service as part of our total Rpe solution
